About

Artist's statement

My art is a parallel world, and Gilka is my alter ego in that world—a space where I do what I love: create.

Through art, I reflect, express emotions, and share my perspective on everyday life and beyond. My style is symbolic and expressive, combining different forms and techniques to communicate as clearly and honestly as possible. I never plan what I want to create—only what I want to say. I allow creativity to guide me toward a result worthy of Gilka.

I don’t believe in repetition. Each work must feel new, sincere, and emotionally unique. I’m not here to please everyone, but to speak my truth—even if it’s not understood by all. Those who resonate with it know there’s more to it than just the surface.

I’m profoundly influenced by a mix of cultures—Latin, Asian, ancient, and mythical—as well as by the supernatural. Music is also essential in my process; silence is the only thing I can’t create in.

In the end, everything comes together. That is the art of Gilka.

Biography

Valter Gil Marques is a visual artist who expresses his creative universe through his alter ego, Gilka. Born from a passion for creation and imagination, Gilka serves as a conduit between the artist and a parallel world where emotion, reflection, and symbolism shape a distinct artistic language.

His work is deeply spontaneous and emotionally charged, refusing repetition in favor of originality and honesty. Blending diverse styles and expressions, Valter’s art invites dialogue on societal issues, personal experiences, and universal themes—often exploring the mystical, mythological, and supernatural.

Valter draws inspiration from a wide range of cultural references, particularly Latin, Asian, and ancient civilizations, as well as from music, which he considers essential to his creative process. For him, silence is not an option—sound is the pulse behind every brushstroke, every idea.

Through Gilka, he has created not only a body of work, but an immersive, symbolic world where the message always prevails over convention. Each piece is a sincere attempt to communicate something real, even if not always fully understood. That is the art of Gilka.
