About

Artist's statement

Drawing has always been the natural language through which I understand and reflect on the world around me. Though my professional path led me to business management, my sketchbooks have never left my side. They are where life happens—page by page, line by line.

I draw instinctively, almost compulsively, with a rhythm that feels telegraphic, even automatic. My work begins in small notebooks where I register fleeting impressions: a face in the crowd, a city street, a church ceiling, or the vast unpredictability of nature. These impressions often evolve into more developed works that oscillate between the real and the imaginary.

My landscapes may be naturalistic or fantastical. My architecture may be literal or symbolic. What ties everything together is a desire to document not only what I see, but what I think—confronting outer reality with inner vision.

I don’t aim for virtuosity. I aim for presence—capturing a moment, a mood, or a memory with sincerity and spontaneity. Drawing is both a record and a release. It is how I understand the world, and perhaps how I leave something behind in it.

Biography

Born in May 1961, Paulo Teixeira is a Lisbon-based artist who graduated in Organization and Business Management from ISCTE in 1987. Though professionally dedicated to the world of business, his true passions lie in drawing and photography—disciplines he has pursued with quiet devotion throughout his life.

Drawing, the primordial language of the Fine Arts, has accompanied him since childhood. His works reveal not only a strong technical grasp, but also a sincere and unpretentious approach to expression. Through an ever-growing body of drawings, Paulo presents a coherent universe shaped by attentive observation and boundless imagination.

His themes range from naturalistic and fantastical landscapes to urban scenes, architectural façades, and intricate studies of church vaults and sacred spaces. Whether grounded in the real or imagined, each piece is marked by a restless creative impulse and an almost telegraphic execution.

Carrying a sketchbook with him at all times, Paulo records his daily encounters—people, places, fragments of memory—turning everyday experiences into visual narratives. These spontaneous notations are the foundation of a deeply personal and poetic artistic journey.
